Almost as many (24.1 per cent) had lived in conditions of semi-starvation during the previous month.

We have become independent only for last 60 years. In these 60 years we have achieved so many good things. The steel plants, Life insurance company, Insurance Company, the best banking system, Public distribution system,Technological progress, The report to Information,Right to education and above all the best Parliamentary system in the whole world. Within this short period we have the population increased from mere 350 millions to 1200 Millions. But No body dies, even the poorest survives. And every body is free to say what he feels good. Full freedom.

We definitely have achieved lot since past 60 years but here the question is that "Is it enough"? Doesn't we need to change and grow as human beings? Why still there are places like Kalahandi where people don't have much to eat,why there is corruption at all levels, why we aren't able to provide education to all,why we are lacking behind when we talk about being humane,Arewe really doing justice to our own country, why jessica lal, nitish katara, ruchika and many more like them still waiting for appropriate justice...why why??
Its not enough what we have achieved and its of great importance that we accept our mistakes and we work on them.My motive is not to criticize my country and my people but my motive is to make people realize and to work to bring a positive change.

India has now 1200 million people. It achieved its freedom in 1947 and the republic was made in 1950. In this short period people have to learn the voting. In many places the votes are still purchased. Because the people at large do not understand the value of their votes. People are learning, but very slowly. No body is there to teach them. They are learning by themselves. In every election, they do learn a lot of things. In many places people have learned the voting. But various rural areas they are is still the same thinking of the British Rule. That is the biggest problem. But inspire of this, wee are lucky that there is no dictatorship! By large in such an environment, we had leaders like Dr Ambedkar who gave us a beautiful constitution, Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi up to emergency,VP Singh who had guided these illiterate people. Now the parliament has passed the Right to Education. I am proud of these things. But I do agree that in such a society where there is lots of religion, lot of language, there such things as you have mentioned are likely to happen.
